Important information in case of release from the Estonian citizenship

Conformity of a copy to an original document confirm by your name, signature and date on every page of the copy containing data.

 

By E-mail

Sign all documents required for application digitally in one container. Digital colour photo and specimen signature must be in .jpg format.

Send the signed container to an address ppa@politsei.ee. The subject of an e-mail, please write: „Application for release from Estonian citizenship“.

The Application

The application must be filled in in Estonian and in capital letters, corrections are not allowed. Use a dark pen or ink-pen. All fields must be filled in (except the fields marked as „TÄIDAB AMETNIK").

Please confirm the correctness of the data provided in the application by your signature at the bottom of the application form in the prescribed field.

The application forms can be filled in on screen. We recommend you to open the application forms with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

You have always an option to ask for advice regarding the filling of the forms either by e-mail address info@politsei.ee or information phone 612 3000.

 

State fee

The state fee can be paid:

  • by bank transfer;
  • in Service Offices the state fee can be paid in cash, by bankcard or by bank transfer through online bank, using the client computer at the Service Office. All most common debit and credit cards are accepted. American Express payment cards are not accepted.
  • at a representation - for detailed information, whether the payment can be made either in cash or by bank card, you can get in your particular representation.

Payment by bank transfer from a bank located in a foreign country

While effecting payment of the state fee from a bank located in a foreign country, it is necessary to know, in addition to the abovementioned, also BIC-code or SWIFT-code of the bank located in Estonia and international bank account number (IBAN) of the state fee account of the Ministry of Finance (Rahandusministeerium).

In a foreign country

Documents issued abroad, that are enclosed to the application form, must be translated into Estonian, English or Russian and the translation must be either attested by notary or performed by a sworn translator.

The document needs to be certified with an apostille certificate (marginal note) or legalised, excl. in cases, if it has been issued by a country:

  • with which Estonia has signed a contract of legal assistance: Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Russia.
  • who are subjects to the Convention on the issue of multilingual extracts from civil status records, signed at Vienna in 1976: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Spain, the Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, France, Germany, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey.
