Renewal of document certificates - frequently asked questions

Update may be necessary for the following documents:

  • ID-card
  • Residence card
  • Digi-ID
  • E-residency card

You should update the certificates if you are using your ID-card electronically and the document has been issued after 16 October 2014.

When and how to update the certificates:

  • Certificates can be updated to 31 March 2018.
  • Certificates can be updated remotely by using the ID-card utility on computer.
  • If remote update fails or cannot be completed, your document can be updated at the service points of the Police and Border Guard Board.
  • The certificates issued after 26 October 2017 do not require the update.
  • As of 1 April 2018, certificates potentially impacted by the security vulnerability will be revoked. If you have not updated your certificates by that date but need to continue using your ID-card electronically, you will need to apply for a new ID-card.
